Orange, BlackBerry, Apple... Marmalade?
What is it about mobile and fruit?
The UK-based cross platform specialist Marmalade re-branded its middleware in 2011, and may well have had those lofty associations in mind when it changed its name from Airplay.
And why not? Marmalade may not have the cool cachet of Apple, but it's played a crucial role in bringing to market some of mobile's biggest hits – including Draw Something, Plants vs Zombies and Cut The Rope.
Marmalade was originally founded in 1998, as Ideaworks3D. Its original mission was making rich console games for Japanese studios, but in the process it developed a middleware for porting code across different game SKUs.
